Hi there, I’m Captain Gary!

Fishing has been one of my favourite pastimes since I was very young. Over the last 40+ years, I have spent thousands of hours out on the beautiful waters of B.C - both catching fish and teaching countless family and friends the ways of our local waters.

I am a certified transport Canada charter operator and have over 12 years experience fishing the coastal waters of Vancouver Island.

During the off season, I enjoy building custom cars as a hobby, and have built 1st place winners at large car shows.

I look forward to meeting you!

- Gary McKay

Fishing in the French creek area starts January 1st, and runs through the end of March for resident winter chinooks.

Traditionally, July 14 is the kick off for retention of large chinook salmon, which run through until the end of December. Chinook is open for catch and release from April to July 14 - but don’t get discouraged! It’s always thrilling to catch these huge magnificent creatures and release them back to the waters, an experience you wont soon forget!

The coho season is always busy, with huge amounts of fish in the area. At times, I have hooked into more than 20 fish in a single outing.

On a 4 hour tour, each guest can expect to catch upwards of 4 fish, with the bag limit being 4 fish (all species combined). Crab traps can also be set during your tour, with the allowable limit at 4 male crabs per person. The local dungeness crab is delicious, and it’s always an added bonus to leave the dock with a few in your catch bag.
